As Nicole Starosielski notes, a simple “click” on a computer commonly activates vast infrastructures whereby information is pushed through routers, local internet networks, IXPs, long-haul backbone systems, coastal cable stations, undersea cables, and data warehouses at the speed of light.22 The characteristics of such infrastructural connections could also be gleaned from our eavesdropping session. In detail, the data traffic that was intercepted during the experiment could be isolated to twelve different actors located in Europe and the United States, of which only one belonged directly to Spotify:
